Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee is recommending council approve an immediate payment of $25,000 to the Trenton Golden Hawks hockey team.
The money would be used to defray costs associated with holding the Dudley Hewitt championship tournament next spring.
The Golden Hawks have asked council for another $75,000, and the committee is recommending that amount be considered in 2017 budget discussions.
Councillor Bob Wannamaker thought $100,000 was too much to be giving to a hockey team.
But most on the committee agreed with Mayor Jim Harrison that the investment will be good for the area, bringing in at least $3 for each dollar invested.
