The City of Quinte West owns land no one knew about, and some of it isn’t even within the city’s boundaries.
Council directed staff to form a so called “Land Squad” to sift through maps and land ownership documents in Hastings and Northumberland Counties.
There’s still a lot of work to do, but Deputy City Clerk Virginia LaTour says a lot of surprises have already popped up.
For example, parts of 12 roads owned by the City of Quinte West are actually located in the City of Belleville.
Not surprisingly, one of those stretches is on Bell Boulevard, but much more surprising is the fact that Quinte West owns Selena Avenue, a well established residential street just east of Palmer Road in Belleville.
