The man who stands accused of firing two gunshots inside Quinte Secondary School and then robbing a downtown bank appeared for a bail hearing in Belleville court Tuesday.
Zak Bayfield was arrested by Toronto police in April following a month-long investigation involving a rash of bank robberies.
In connection to incidents in Toronto, Markham and Burlington, he’s charged with five counts each of robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, use of a firearm while committing an offense and careless use, storage of a firearm, along with one count of robbery.
Belleville police have added six similar charges including discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
On Tuesday, the 40-year-old Whitby man made a brief appearance by video before Justice Sam Cureatz.
The short, unshaven man with short brown hair calmly stared straight ahead and gave only “yes” answers when spoke to.
His Duty Counsel requested the bail hearing be adjourned until June 7, to allow for more time to gather information.
Bayfield was recently denied bail in Toronto court.
On March 10, city police responded to a call of shots fired inside QSS, which later was deemed to be a distraction in the subsequent robbery of the RBC bank on Front Street.
No one was injured in the incident.
