On Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 1:10 p.m. officers with the Napanee detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and bicycle on Jim Kimmett Boulevard, Town of Greater Napanee.
Investigation determined the driver of a motorcycle travelling eastbound on Jim Kimmett Boulevard swerved to avoid a bicyclist who veered into the motorcyclists path. The motorcycle struck the bicycle knocking the 14 year-old male operator from the bicycle.
The young male from Napanee, who was not wearing a bicycle helmet, was taken to hospital where he was treated and released.
The driver of the motorcycle sustained minor injuries.
The OPP would like to remind youth and parents of the importance of wearing an approved bicycle helmet. Most bicyclists will be injured as the result of a fall or loss of control.
Up to 88% of serious head injuries can be prevented by wearing a properly fitted and adjusted helmet.
