There’s a new development in the case of a car going into Lake Ontario in Amherstview this morning, but we still don’t really know what happened.
OPP were called by a witness around 12:40 this morning, who said a car was speeding towards the lake, on County Road 6, near Highway 33.
Initially, the Napanee detachment said officers responded and found the car in the water, now acting Sergeant Angie Atkinson says the Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate because of some “events leading up to the car going into the water”.
OPP divers were on the scene, but there’s been no word on if anyone was found inside the car or not.
The SIU is called in anytime there is a report of violence, death, or sexual assault against a police officer.
