The Quinte Skyway Bridge on Highway 49 will be closed Sunday night as the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte are holding a ceremony in honour of two young Tyendinaga men who drowned last year.
The bridge will be closed from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. May 22 to allow for fireworks.
The Tyendinaga Police Service and Prince Edward Ontario Provincial Police will be present on both sides of the bridge respectively to stop traffic during the event.
In the event of an emergency, the bridge will be opened to allow emergency vehicles to cross over from either direction.
Twenty-six-year-old year old Matt Fairman and 21-year-old Tyler Maracle were found after they never returned from a fishing trip in the waters of the Bay of Quinte near the Skyway Bridge in May 2015.
Extensive searches for the two men were carried out daily for close to two weeks.
After the men were found, the Tyendinaga Police Service, Tyendinaga Mohawk Fire Department and OPP thanked the community for their continued support and assistance.
