Quinte Healthcare CEO Mary Clare Egberts says there is an issue with the provincial ministry of health over funds surrounding the pause on transferring day surgeries from Trenton to Belleville.
At Thursday’s donor celebration at Trenton Memorial Hospital, Egberts announced that during a private meeting with Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Dr. Eric Hoskins he agreed to pay for pausing the transfer of 2,200 day surgeries from the two sites.

Minister Hoskins recently announced the pause at TMH as they wait for a plan from the Local Health Integration Task Force on the future of the hospital.
Egberts says that they will continue to push the province to address the funding formula that doesn’t work for multi-site hospitals like the Quinte Healthcare Corporation.
On a lighter note, giving back to your community was the message shared at the special ceremony honouring donors.
More than 100 dedicated donors filled the surgical waiting room Thursday where it was announced more than 118 names were going onto or up a level on the Donor Recognition wall.
TMH Auxiliary volunteer & President of the local Canadian Cancer Society Karen White explains why she is a member of the hospital’s cornerstone society – a group that chooses to leave a gift to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation in their will.
TMHF Executive Director Wendy Warner says it is donations like White’s that ensure the longevity of the hospital.
Chief of Quinte Health Care Emergency Services Dr. Christopher Hayman.
Hayman says people have been a little reluctant to donate to a hospital that they thought was closing however he wants people to know TMH is here to stay.
