A 29-year-old Picton man pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death after a co-worker died in a crash on December 14, 2014.
The 30-year-old passenger in a borrowed two-door sports car, Ryan Hennessy, was pronounced dead at the scene of an early morning high speed accident on County Road 12 near West Lake in Prince Edward County.
In Picton court on Monday, Corey Angus Fraser pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison, a five year driving ban, and was also ordered to provide a DNA sample.
The court heard that several people, some working for Raycon Construction, had gathered at a house and had been drinking, some people heavily, including Corey Angus Fraser.
He had also taken an amphetamine prescribed to him, Adderall, before going to the party.
Fraser and Hennessy left the party with Fraser driving and ended up speeding and leaving the road.
An investigation revealed that at the time of impact the car was going at least 120 kmh.
The vehicle slammed into two mailboxes, ripped a small tree out of the ground, ultimately slamming into two other trees before coming to a halt.
Damage to the car was “catastrophic”.
Fraser was found to have between 124 and 188 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
