Just over 60 members of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment tested their combat skills Saturday.
Teams of four soldiers working through a course of ten different training stands around the Prince Edward Air Base at Loch Sloy Holdings in Picton had their mettle tested in the various military skills in the regiment’s annual competition.
Captain Nick Butler explained the military skills competition is a wrap up of the regiments training year before they stand down or depart on summer tasks.
He said that the training tests the soldiers on a variety of skills.
The eight kilometre course handled skills such as operating in urban environments, patrolling skills, judging distances, navigation, weapons handling and working through the memory perception exercise called a Kinsgame.
Lieutenant-Cplonel Chris Comeau, Commanding Officer of the regiment, said that despite the inclement weather, the troops were preforming admirably, but added the spirit of competition is one of the driving factors of the day.
The regiment finished up the day with some R&R and a barbecue.
