The Bay of Quinte Tourist Council and the Bay of Quinte Living Council have caused considerable debate by Quinte West city council in the past.
There could be more discussion this Monday.
Quinte West council will see a recommendation that it accept, in principle, the merger of Bay of Quinte Tourism and Bay of Quinte Living.
Recently, Quinte West council decided to provide financial support to the Tourist Council, but not to the Living Council.
Bay of Quinte Tourism promotes tourism in the region while the Living Council’s focus is on selling the region as a great place to live to those now living outside of the region.
The merger is seen as a way to clear up confusion and streamline the organizations.
It’s suggested the new entity be called the Bay of Quinte Regional Council.
It is suggested the council be comprised of 2 members each from Belleville and Quinte West and 2 members from the Belleville and Quinte West Chambers of Commerce. The other members, Prince Edward County, Quinte Restaurant Association, Quinte Accommodations and Attractions Association, Quinte Realtors Association, Tyendinaga Township, and Hastings County would have one member each.
Quinte West council meets this Monday at 6:30 at city hall.
