He was known as the “eternal optimist”.
“Brighton is a much better place because of Brian Todd.”
Those were just a couple of descriptions of the late Brian Todd, a man who was involved
in countless events and community activities in the Municipality of Brighton.
The former Principal of East Northumberland Secondary School was one of the driving forces behind the
creation of the Brighton Health Services Centre back in 2002.
His legacy of good works and community service lives on in the form of the BHSC’s Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund.
The fund was officially kicked off Thursday night at the BHSC’s annual general meeting.
At it a total of 13 cash grants were awarded, totaling just over $70,000. Over the years, the BHSC has
granted a total of $250,000 to various charitable organizations in Brighton and area.
This year’s recipients include the Bridge Hospice, Brighton Auxiliary Rescue Unit, Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation,
Friends of Presquile, Meals on Wheels, Brighton Soccer Club, Save Our Heritage Organization, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Butler Creek Trail, and the Brighton Ontario Early Years Centre.
The Brighton Health Services Centre Board of Directors, chaired by Gerald Draistra, hopes to grow the Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund and increase the donations from it in coming years.
