22 year old Cindy Nelles is the winner of this year’s “Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award” as Belleville’s Athlete of the Year. The only question: is there enough room left on the mantle to display it?
To suggest the McMaster Mauraders rugby star had a great 2015 would be an understatement. Nelles led McMaster to its second straight Ontario Women’s championship and first national women’s rugby title where she was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
Nelles was also named the national women’s rugby player of the year, first team All Canadian and Ontario University MVP. She also captained the Canadian Maple Leaf national women’s development team through a tour in England.
Cindy Nelles will be a member of the Canadian Leafs that will compete in the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland.
Cindy will receive the Athlete of the Year trophy at the City’s honours and awards reception at 6:30 in the All Purpose Room at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
