It was a big weekend for some area elementary students, as the annual Inter-Rotary Spelling Bee was held at Belleville’s Greek Hall.
Grade four student Kai Siggens, of St. Gregory’s Catholic School in Picton, was the top speller out of 21 students in the junior division, nailing 14 words correctly.
Alyssa O’Brien of Trenton’s St. Mary’s School and Cameron Mercier from Queen Elizabeth in Belleville took home second and third prizes respectively in the junior division.
In the senior division Aaron Harvey of Wellington’s CML Snider School came in first, followed by Katie Girardeau of Prince Charles in Trenton and Bradley Wood of Belleville’s Albert College.
Each child who placed first-to-third receives a cash prize, as does each school of the first place winners.
