The number of local hospital employees that might be laid off by Quinte Health Care has been cut back dramatically from original estimates.
QHC had to cut over 11 million dollars from its budget for this year and initially it was expected 84 people could lose their jobs.
Due to department reorganization, people taking exit packages, and accepting part-time work, the worst case scenario now is that just 9 people could actually lose their jobs.

Meanwhile, QHC Communications Manager, Catherine Walker, says the recent announcement by the province of more base funding is good news for the future.
The provincial government has upped QHC’s funding by 4 million dollars a year.
