It was a warm afternoon and a warmer welcome for the Pedal for Hope Quinte cycling team as it ended its two week tour of schools in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Friday afternoon in Belleville.
19 OPP and Belleville police officers took part in the 5th annual Pedal for Hope, visiting 30 elementary schools in a fundraising effort for pediatric cancer research.
The school visits are wildly popular with the students and the assemblies are a mix of raucous celebration and some serious talk about cancer and kids.
This years fundraising goal was $125,000.
Belleville Detective Constable Jeremy Ashley said that to date $80,000 to $90,000 had been raised, but that fundraising was still ongoing and a final total won’t be known for some time.
Last year, the Pedal for Hope Quinte team raised $115,000.
