A 34 year-old Belleville woman has pleaded guilty to a charge of theft by power of attorney.
Shelley Baker made her plea at the Quinte Courthouse today and has admitted to stealing money from her parents, after gaining control of their bank accounts, when they moved into an area retirement home.
Crown Attorney Jodi White says the total value of money stolen, through bank withdrawals and credit card transactions, totals upwards of $60,000 and was taken over a period of about two years, between March 2012 and June 2014.
But defense lawyer Chase St. Aubin says he can provide evidence to show the total amount is less than that.
Justice Wolf Tausenfreund told both lawyers he’d like them to come to a consensus on the total, since his decision on sentence will likely be based on that amount.
A pre-sentence report will be submitted on June 17th.
