The Ministry of Transportation is working with the City of Belleville on a widening of Highway 401 in the city area.
Wednesday at the Chamber of Commerce Mayor’s breakfast, Mayor Taso Christopher said they have met with MTO officials about expanding the highway to either six lanes or as many as eight.
Christopher says they are currently undergoing an environmental assessment.
Christopher says they would also look at new on and off ramps through the city, primarily at Highway 37 for the industrial park.
