A Veridian Connections spokesperson says contractors working in downtown Belleville seem to be responsible for the city’s second power outage of the day.
In an email to Quinte News, spokesperson Chris Mace says contractors working near Front and Campbell Streets made contact with electrical equipment, leading to the outage.
It originally affected about 2,000 customers, from the Bay of Quinte north to College Street and from just west of Coleman to east of Dufferin Street, but the company’s hydro outage site now says there may still be up to 50 customers affected.
There’s no word on when full restoration will happen, but Veridian staff is on the scene.
An earlier outage, which lasted about 45 minutes, was caused by a transformer issue.
Drivers who come across outed stop lights should remember to treat the intersection as a four way stop.
