Things are getting easier for nurses and patients at the Prince Edward Memorial Hospital’s MacSteven Dialysis Unit.
That’s because the hospital foundation was recently able to buy a brand new handheld ultrasound machine, at a cost of about $7,000, thanks to donations from the community.
The majority of the donations were made through the in memoriam program, where donors give gifts to honour a deceased friend or family member.
Hospital staff say the portable ultrasound machine will make it easier for staff to connect “hard-to-needle” patients to the machine, decreasing the number of injuries to blood vessels, which can be common for dialysis patients.
