Spring planting is getting underway as Quinte area farmers are taking advantage of the good weather.
As the temperatures rise, the farmers in Prince Edward County have started putting fertilizer on the fall wheat and some have even begun planting grains. Lloyd Crowe, director for the Grain Farmers of Ontario, District 13, says he expects a good harvest of the winter wheat since there are few of the dead areas that often happen.
Crow says pricing is the bad news this year since “the price of wheat is way down” and corn price is “half the price it was years ago.”
