Residents in Centre Hastings should expect a tax hike of around 4.7% this year, if the budget is approved next week.
This morning, the budget committee gave preliminary approval to the plan, but the total dollar amount of the budget can’t be released until it’s ratified by council.
Mayor Tom Deline tells Quinte News, with the increase being so substantial, each individual department will have to be very strict with their own budgets.
And he says, while he’s not happy to have to hike taxes so much, he is pleased with how councillors and staff worked through a difficult process.

The main reason for the big increase is a more than 4% jump in OPP costs.
Deline re-stated that he’s pleased with the service being provided by the local detachment, it’s just unfortunate the cost has risen so much.
