Fire destroyed a big barn in rural Brighton last night.
Flames broke out at 544 Goodfellow Road, at a barn owned by the Woof family after 6 o’clock.
No one was home at the time and no one was injured.
Brighton, Cramahe and Trent Hills fire departments responded.
There was no livestock in the barn, which stored hay, tractors, antique tractors and other equipment.
Brighton Fire Chief Lloyd Hutchinson estimates the damage at over $300,000.
The fire is still smouldering this morning, and an investigation into the cause has yet to begin.
Meanwhile, these are wild times for Quinte region firefighters.
There have been grass fires galore over the weekend.
During the day yesterday, there were grass fires in Centre Hastings, Madoc Township, Quinte West, Tweed, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga.
There was even a grass fire in the west of Belleville.
It was a small one in a field just north of Avondale Road.
There is a total burn ban on in most Quinte region communities.
