Nestle Canada has confirmed 23 workers at its Trenton plant are being laid off, effective May 2nd of this year.
The staffing changes were announced earlier this week and says the decision was made “after careful consideration of all options”.
Nestle says while the core business of frozen and dry food at the Trenton plant is doing well, there have been reductions in need for some specialty products, which led to the decision.
The company also says union executives were involved in the whole process and that affected workers will be given “as much support as possible to help them through the transition”.
There is also an “opportunity for part-time or recall work” as well.
