A motion to keep demonstration schools open in the province was voted down at Queen’s Park Thursday night.
Following a day filled with a press conference, a rally on the front lawn and debate in the legislature, an NDP motion in favour of keeping the schools open, lost on a vote of 44-36.
Earlier in the day, about 700 supporters of the schools, including Sagonaska in Belleville, went to Queen’s Park for a rally.
Sagonaska Parent Council Chair Lesley Lehman tells Quinte News, the event went extremely well.
Sagonaska Parent Council Chair Leslie Lehman says perhaps the most poignant moment, was a speech from 10 year-old Alexis, of Trenton.
Having the motion defeated does not necessarily mean the schools will close, however it does lead to worry about the schools’ future.
