Some new steps are expected to be takenthis year in the ongoing preparation for a residential development on the former industrial Bakelite property in Belleville’s east end.
A major portion of the cleanup of the former Bakelite site has been completed with removal of the asbestos-containing materials on the Bay of Quinte waterfront moved to a licensed facility. Spokesman for the property owners, Ian Brady, says other surface debris has also been dealt with.
Brady says, in 2016, he expects Rentex will apply for a record-of-site from the province and apply to the city for rezoning to residential for about 30 acres on the east side of the 93-acre site.
Brady says final development could include multi-residential and single family homes.
A marsh area has been cleaned up and a walking trail is expected to go through the completed project.
