Concerns about hiring practices at Belleville city hall prompted a councillor last night to call for a review of those practices.
More than a dozen members of the public and city staff in the audience applauded when city council Councillor Kelly McCaw presented the motion to create a three-person committee of council to review the hiring procedures.
Following the council meeting, Councillor McCaw told Quinte News she heard many concerns.
McCaw said she had heard from a staff person and also a person she called “qualified” who could not get a job interview at city hall.
Council approved the establishment of a committee on a six -three vote with Mayor Christopher and councillors Thompson and Denyes voting against.
A staff report on the committee and its terms of reference will come back to council for approval
