It was a big day yesterday for five Quinte Red Devil minor midgets.
Forwards Nathan Dunkley, Dawson Baker and Matt Sherwin, defenceman Joe Roy and goaltender Evan Morrison were all taken in the Ontario Hockey League’s priority selection draft.
Dunkley, a native of Campbellford was the highest pick taken at 17th overall in the first round to the Kingston Frontenacs. Baker, a Baltmore, Ontario product, was selected 63rd overall in the fourth round by the Sudbury Wolves. Sherwin, from Campbellford, was taken 131st overall in round 7 by the Owen Sound Attack.
Stirling’s Roy was snapped up five picks later at 136th overall by the Niagara Icedogs.
Finally, rounding it out was the Flint Firebirds taking Stirling native Morrison 300th overall in round 15.
The Red Devils got in as one of the wildcard teams in the OHL Cup tournament in March and went to the quarter-finals, losing to the Toronto Jr. Canadians 3-2 in overtime.
The team was coached by Patrick Shearer, who will coach the Pickering Panthers of the OJHL next season.
