Team Canada has been announced for the U-19 Women’s World Floorball Championships and the region will have many representatives.
The squad will be captained by Belleville’s Hannah Wilson.
Also from Belleville will be Livy Greaves, the team’s youngest member Alexa Hoskin at just 15, Emily Lange of Trenton, Madi Brinklow of Tyendinaga and Lily Messier of Foxboro.
Just west of us is a strong Northumberland County contingent, including Olivia DiVona and Aislyn Stretch of Port Hope, Kieva Earle of Grafton and Dara Killoran of Cobourg.
Coach Todd Crawford named 26 players and reserves to the team Wednesday at Belleville’s Boston Pizza.
The remainder of the players are from the GTA and the Hamilton area.
Crawford says, “The 2016 team is solid on D this year. All 6 players are very responsible and three are legitimate scoring threats. Up front we will be much deeper than the last two editions. We expect the offense to have balanced scoring, as three lines are very deep and the fourth line is extremely active and can be counted on to shut teams down when needed.”
Crawford says they will begin training this weekend in Hamilton and continue preparing for the tournament which begins on May 4, 2016 at Belleville’s Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
