Residents around the CN rail crossing on the Second Dug Hill Road want a quieter neighborhood.
Monday night, resident Mark Ruckstuhl presented a petition with about 100 names on it asking that the
trains stop their warning whistles when coming through the Second Dug Hill Road crossing.
A report from city staff said council could decide to enter into discussions to stop the whistles with Transport
Canada, however staff warned that Transport Canada would likely demand more insurance on the crossing
and that the city share in any liability should there be lawsuits.
Railway companies have stopped whistling at a few crossings in the Quinte region after a public process.
Quinte West council voted to ask for more information on the issue.
