Residents of Hastings County may be taking their banking to the post office in the future.
Over the past few years county council has become increasingly concerned about the closure of bank branches in its rural communities.
Recently both Marmora and Lake and Deseronto have lost their banks.
CAO Jim Pine says it’s a big issue in rural communities and the county hopes to encourage the federal government to allow post offices to once again do banking.
He says it is being done in a number of other countries in Europe and in New Zealand.
Hastings County will ask the federal and Ontario municipal associations and postal workers associations to support its request to the federal government.
