Belleville council will decide whether or not it wants to borrow some more money
to complete phase 2 of the downtown revitalization project at its meeting Tuesday.
In a report, city staff is recommending that Len Corcoran Excavating do the work
along Front from Victoria south to Bridge Street for the lowest of two tenders, totalling $8.056 million.
Phase 2 would also include work on Victoria, from Front to Pinnacle, and on Campbell Street, from Front to Pinnacle.
Corcoran Excavating is the same company that did phase 1.
The other tender came from Colautti Construction of Ottawa. It was about $1 million dollars higher.
Meanwhile, expenditures on phase 1 and some of phase 2 total just over $14 million so there is just under $7 millionĀ left to keep phases 1 and 2 under the 21 million dollar original budget.
Staff is recommending that council approve adding close to $1.3 million to borrowing already being done in the form of a debenture to cover the shortfall.
The final phase, phase 3, will be considered separately, running from Bridge Street south to Dundas West.
City council meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday at city hall.
