The Belleville Police Service responded to 52 calls for service between March 16th, 2016 at 5:00 a.m. and March 17th, 2016 at 5:00 a.m.
Traffic Enforcement
Belleville, Ontario – On March 16th, 2016, officers focused on cell phone violations in the area of North Front Street and Bell Blvd. In a 90-minute span, 7 motorists were charged with using a cell phone. There were also 3 charges of driving while under suspension.
Stolen Vehicle
Belleville, Ontario – On March 16th, 2016, at 6:00 a.m. police attended at a residence on Follwell Cres. in relation to a stolen vehicle. The homeowner reported that sometime overnight a red 2010 Kia Soul plate # BXNE412 was taken from the driveway.
Distraction theft
Belleville, Ontario – On March 16th, 2016, at 6:28 p.m. police attended at a North Front Street business in relation to a theft. A man and a woman entered the business and the woman distracted the lone employee. The man opened the cash register and removed a quantity of cash. Both left the store together and they drove away in a brown newer-model van. The couple is described as:
Man: 35-40 years of age, 6 ft, 200 lbs., dark hair, dark complexion with scruffy facial hair, crooked yellow teeth, no accent
Woman: 35-40 years of age, 5’4”, dark hair pulled back in a ponytail, dark complexion, yellow crooked teeth with an overbite, no accent
Fraud
Belleville, Ontario – On March 16th, 2016, at 5:55 p.m. a man attended at the Station to advise that he had been defrauded of $1900.00 cash. He received a phone call from a male who claimed he was a police officer by the name of Shawn White. The caller advised that the man owed the government income tax money. He was to pay $1900.00 via MoneyGram or go to jail. Credit cards were not acceptable. The cash was then sent to a site in Texas.
The Belleville Police Service is urging people not to respond to any forms of telephone solicitation for money.
Impaired Driver
Belleville, Ontario – On March 17th, 2016, at 12:25 a.m. an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Bridge Street East. The vehicle accelerated away onto MacDonald Gardens before coming to a stop on Montgomery Blvd. The driver was arrested for impaired driving. A 36-year old Belleville man was charged with impaired driving, over 80 mgs,
flight from police, and breach of probation. He will appear in court on April 7th, 2016. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
