Central Hastings OPP reminds the public that thefts from vehicles are a crime of opportunity, where criminals will focus on the unlocked vehicles rather than locked vehicles.
Keep your vehicle locked at all times and pocket the key. Never leave your engine running even if you’re just leaving it unattended for a brief period of time.
Keep your vehicle clean and empty. Take all valuables such as purses, computers and cell phones with you. Even small items such as loose change can be desirable so remove it or store it in a closed compartment.
Put any recent shopping packages out of sight in the trunk and be sure to bring them into your residence at the end of the day.
Park your vehicle in well-lit areas. If you have a garage, use it and lock the door.
