The Mayor of Brighton was surprised by a vote of council last night.
A couple of family doctors are known to be retiring in the near future in Brighton and Mayor Mark Walas had made a motion to bring back a report on a physician recruitment program for council to consider.
Quinte West and Belleville have been running such incentive programs, paying medical students’ tuition.
However, to his surprise, his motion was defeated.
Instead, council voted to support a resolution from the Municipality of Bluewater asking the provincial government to bring back financial incentives to attract doctors to rural areas.
