Belleville city council took a sharp look at its transit system during budget deliberations today but stopped short of increasing the fares.
Council rejected a staff proposal to increase the bus fares but some councillors criticized what they called the lack of action on getting the routes in better order and doing more advertising on the buses.
Transit chair Jack Miller said one of the routes is served by three different buses and one can be cut.
Transit manager Matt Coffee said cutting bus #9 could save $75,000.
Miller also called for a central advertising system through the city not a separate bus system.
