A Belleville committee is recommending cutting red tape to speed up renovations to a downtown building.
At Monday night’s Planning Advisory Committee meeting, members approved eliminating a review and approvals process for the Century Place building, at the corner of Bridge Street and Front.
The Condominium Review Process was not needed, because staff and council agreed that the commercial and residential renovations are exactly what the downtown and the City of Belleville are looking for.
Renovations will include the creation of 38 condos on the top three floors and a maximum of 30 commercial units on the bottom two floors.
If council approves, the project moves directly to Belleville’s building department for approvals.
Century Place is now owned by local businessmen Peter Knudsen, Sean McKinney and Ross McDougall.
