Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee is suggesting council approve getting set
to have summer time ice in the Dunc McDonald arena in 2017.
Chair of the committee, Councillor Karen Sharpe, says there has been increasing interest from various
hockey and figure skating organizations. The Trenton Goldenhawks are interested in taking a lot
of ice time in the summer.
Staff estimates summer ice could actually be profitable for the city.
To get set, it’s recommended the City of Quinte West buy a new compressor for $60,000 and a portable floor at a cost of around $125,000.
Summer ice would be rented out at 150 dollars an hour.
