The second anniversary of the flooding in Belleville’s Foxboro area is approaching but still no good news for the flood victims.
Chair of Belleville’s Disaster Relief committee says the fund for the flood victims stalled at $6,000 and “the support just wasn’t there.”
Mike Letwin says it was a “tough go” from the start and he doesn’t blame flood victims for being “angry.”
Letwin says three other cities were unable to raise money and the province has now changed the rules that require local fundraising.
Seventy claims totalling $450,000, have been submitted for damages.
The province pays two for one dollar raised.
The highest claim is about $10,000, most are $1,000.
Letwin plans to discuss the issue with city officials.
