OPP are warning about another tech support scam making the rounds.
Two residents in Centre Hastings were recently using their computers, when a pop up appeared, blaring sirens and telling them their computers were infected.
Both users called the numbers that popped up on screen and spoke with heavily accented men, who told them they’d have to pay between $300 and $350 to forward the case to a higher level technician.
Both users also gave up remote control to their computers, but only one ended up losing money.
If you see a pop-up ad like this, you’re advised not to call the numbers on-screen and report them instead.
You should also be suspicious of any unsolicited calls from so-called computer repair companies.
