Prince Edward County residents working to stop industrial wind turbines are “cautiously elated.”
Friday evening, an Ontario Environmental Review Tribunal released its decision regarding the
previously approved WPD White Pines wind farm.
The Tribunal decision states the turbines would cause serious and irreversible harm to Little Brown
Bats and the Blanding’s Turtle.
However, the Tribunal does not believe the wind farm would cause serious and irreversible harm to migratory
birds, humans, or the water supply.
It did acknowledge that the 27 turbine project would cause a serious risk to migratory birds and that the site
was poorly chosen from that perspective.
According to the residents’ group, the Alliance to Protect Prince Edward County, the Tribunal will
now order a hearing asking for submissions to remedy the situation.
