The Mayor of Quinte West believes a meeting with the Minister of Health Monday on the future of Trenton Memorial Hospital was a positive one.
Mayor Jim Harrison and council, along with Brighton Mayor Mark Walas, local MPP Lou Rinaldi, and others raised concerns with the moving of surgeries from Trenton to Belleville General Hospital and continuing fears in the community that TMH might become irrelevant in the future.
The Mayor comments on Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskin’s reaction.
Mayor Harrison said the minister remains committed to a “health hub” involving several organizations being part of Trenton Memorial Hospital, including a Veterans Centre.
However, the health minister was less enthusiastic about the citizens group OurTMH running the hospital.
Mayor Harrison also stressed the need for provincial funding to set up a Quinte region public transportation system.
