The Wellington Dukes clinched an OJHL playoff spot Friday night. Yesterday they came closer to clinching home ice in the first round with a 6-1 rout of Aurora.
Luc Brown and Ben Sokay had 3 point games with Nicklaus Mucci, Shaw Boomhower and Tyler Burnie scoring as well. Dukes forward Austin Labelle says they stuck to their game plan.
The Dukes are 4th in the North-East Conference, 5 points ahead of Aurora with 3 games left. However the Tigers have two in hand.
In Newmarket, Mitch Emerson’s third period power play goal was the difference as the Trenton Golden Hawks prevailed 2-1 over the Hurricane. Hunter Fargey also scored for the G-Hawks, who have already clinched first place overall.
The playoff field is set in the Empire Junior “C” Hockey League however the Picton Pirates won’t be participating. The Pirates season came to an end 40 seconds into overtime as they lost 4-3 to Amherstview in the final game of the regular season. That eliminated Picton.
First place Port Hope takes on Gananoque while second place Napanee faces Amherstview.
