The local health unit is focusing its immunization program on two main student groups this season.
Hastings Prince Edward health unit program manager Bill Sherlock told the board of health today that this year his department is concentrating on students seven years old and seventeen years old, since they are the young people entering and leaving the school system.
He said notices are going out to those not immunized and there are lots of clinics so that students don’t lose any class time by being suspended because they don’t have their shots.
Sherlock says immunization has made a big difference controlling disease outbreaks.
The suspension date will be around April 15; usually about 100 students are suspended but are back at school once immunized.
