Quinte Health Care is going to have a smaller pie and a shrinking piece in the pie.
That was the analogy used by Chief Financial Officer Brad Harrington to describe population growth over the next 15 years.
At Tuesday’s board meeting, Harrington told members that QHC is far from being out of the woods when it comes to funding from the province.
He says over the next 15 years, the Ontario population will grow by 17 percent, while in Quinte, it will be only 1.4 percent.
The province will be funding hospitals based on population and the better the price to treat the patient, the more favourably the funding.
Harrington says since we do not have the population growth, we have to be efficient as possible when it comes to patient care.
QHC has received numerous funding reductions over the last several years, including 2016-17.
