Like many local food banks are, representatives from the Helping Hands Food Bank in Madoc were at Centre Hastings Council to to ask for help last night.
The food bank is providing emergency food to about 220 people per month and handed out 120 christmas sharing baskets this past December, but still needs more money to buy more than just non-perishable food.
Mayor Tom Deline agreed it was a worthy cause, but mentioned a council policy on not donating tax dollars to charities.
He did encourage each councillor and members of the community to visit the food bank and make their own donations.
