It’s now official – a casino will be built in Belleville, with construction starting in the next couple of months.
You can almost bet on it – there’ll be gambling at the casino in the spring of 2017.
Tonight, city council approved an agreement that allows Great Canadian Gaming to build its Shoreline Casino Belleville on Bell Boulevard.
Company spokesperson Chuck Keeling.
He comments on the job outlook.
Keeler outlines the casino setting.
Under the contribution agreement, the city would receive 5.25 % of slot machine revenue up to $65 million, 3 % of revenues over $65 million and under $200 million, 2.5% of revenue more than $200 million, and .5% of revenues over $500 million.
There will be 450 parking spots and the building will hold up to 1,000 people at a time, 700 on the gambling floor, others in the restaurant areas.
After the council vote, Mayor Taso Christopher said “Welcome to Belleville, we’ve been waiting for you.”
Councillor Jackie Denyes noted the city had been waiting since 2002 for a casino, when the Agricultural society had started working on the idea.
