The average length of stay at Belleville General Hospital’s Behavioural Supports Transition Unit is well below its target prompting the reminder that referrals are always welcome.
The unit has been providing assistance for adults with dementia and responsive behaviours since March 2015.
Program manager Adrienne Bell Smith says they have had 58 admissions and 45 discharges with an average length of stay at 55 days, which is below the 90 day target.
Bell Smith says once that risk from their behaviour is manageable – with a good plan in place where they aren’t a risk to themselves or the people around them they can be discharged from their unit to a community setting.
Members of the public that know someone who meets the criteria, a referral to the BSTU can be made through the Community Care Access Centre or by calling 310-2222.
