“All of us are the same even though we have differences sometimes we express ourselves in different ways.”
That was the message shared by speaker Mohamad Jebara, Chief Iman from the Cordova Centre in Ottawa to 165 participants of the Syrian Refugee Task Forum in Belleville Friday.
There are eight individually sponsored groups within the Quinte region that have or are working to resettle Syrian families in the area.
This prompted Quinte Immigration Services to organize the day long event to provide information and training to the groups along with those who will provide first-line contact such as social services, health professionals, employment agencies and English teachers.
Jebara told Quinte News that above all else he hopes his presentation on cultural sensitivity drives home the notion that ‘we are all asking for the same thing.’
