The officer in charge of Belleville’s Festive RIDE Campaign says the 2015 patrol of area roads went extremely well.
Constable Brad Stitt updated the Police Board on the 2015 campaign and says this year they went out with the mindset of “quality, not quantity”, when it came to checking cars and drivers.
Stitt says one biggest issues they’re still dealing with, is drivers who are under 22 but have a full G license.
He says those drivers tend to forget their blood alcohol concentration has to be zero.
In his report, Stitt also noted that more drivers seem to be traveling with marijuana in their cars, whether legally or illegally.
He says police forces may need some new tools to deal with an increase in “high” drivers, should pot be legalized.
In total, 4,875 cars were checked, resulting in 28 roadside tests.
Sixteen drivers blew in the “warn” range, six were charged with impaired driving (or refusing to provide a sample) and eight drivers under 22 were charged with having a BAC over zero.
