The Belleville Police Service will be getting the rest of its new communications gear soon, after the Police Board approved spending just under $138,000 to complete the purchase.
A number of the radio units were bought last year, but in order to try and keep budget in check, the service deferred part of the payment to this year.
The board agreed to spend the money on the rest of the units now, after Motorola said the police force would lose an agreed-upon 20% discount, if the radios weren’t bought by the end of this month.
If that decision had been put off any further, it would have cost another $20,000 or more.
